Purchased at the Exposition Universelle of 1900 in Paris.

The Standard was one of eight types of underglaze painting offered by Rookwood Pottery in around 1900. In the company catalogue, it is characterised as “painting in warm colors under a brilliant glaze”. The main painted motifs included flowers; animals (birds, fish) were less frequent.
